SSRS Tools

SSRS supports both development and management tools.

1. BIDS

                * To develop the reports and to deploy reports

                * Supports controls to design and develop reports easily.

                * We can preview and test reports

2. Report Server

                * It is a centralized location where we can publish (deploy) the reports

                * We can deploy reports and report models

                * We can go to report server with the URL

                                http://servername:portno/ReportServer

                Ex:

                                http://localhost:8080/ReportServer

3. Report Manager

                * To provide security, change configuration settings of deployed reports we need report manager

                * We can go to report manager with the URL

                                http://servername:portno/Reports

                Ex:

                                http://localhost:8080/Reprots

4. Rs Utility

                * To deploy the reports from command prompt

                * We can manage the reports from command prompt

5. Reporting databases

                * To maintain the configuration settings and execution details SSRS supports 2    databases

                                1. ReportServer

                                                * Consists of execution details, users information etc of deployed reports.

                                2. ReportServerTempdb

                                                * Datasets required for the reports is prepared.

6. Reporting Services Configuration Manager

                * We can configure

                                * Report server URLs

                                * Report Manager URLs

                                * Configure Email settings, service account etc
